Tyler is a very happy 6 year old boy in Grade 2, who was born healthy and at only 3 weeks old he contracted Bacterial Meningitis. The meningitis caused a brain insult and he was later diagnosed with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy which has severely delayed his fine and gross motor skills.
He is a very busy boy with all of his therapies such as Conductive Education and Therapeutic horseback riding.
Tyler had non-invasive surgery in New Jersey on June 12th 2015. This surgery was NOT available in Canada and it helped reduce the rigidness of his muscles (spasticity) so he will have better ease of movement and functionality. It is a very slow process and he will still have many limitations but he is working really hard to improve. The surgery relieved some of the muscle spasms and pain that are common with cerebral palsy.
Tyler requires full-time assistance for all positioning and transfers and does not speak, or walk, sit or stand independently. He is a very intelligent little boy whose motivation and determination is inspirational to everyone around him.
He has outgrown his current adaptable feeding chair and requires the Rifton Activity hi-lo chair for safe positioning for meals. The hi-lo base makes the chair height-adjustable through the ease of a foot pump. It adjusts and tilts while Tyler is in the chair without having to use any tools. The chair will also be used during play time and to transfer him to other equipment in the home.
His school is now using this chair and like the ease of functionality that it provides so we know it is the best option for Tyler.
Please help us raise $6500 for a Rifton Activity hi-lo chair for our little man!
Due to overwhelming response to support Tyler, his Mom has let us know that he needs to upgrade his portable seating as well, so we have added in the extra to really enhance Tyler's life at home and away from home.
